Issues of Equality and Diversity Essay Equality is about learners’ rights to attend and participate, regardless of their gender, race, ethnic origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation and age. Therefore it is extremely important to identify any barriers to learning that may arise. To promote inclusion, at the point of initial assessment, the learner needs to disclose any disabilities that may make it difficult for them to access the course. Once these needs have been identified, the teacher needs to consider effective strategies or identify appropriate resources which would support the student, for example, a visually impaired student may need worksheets written in Braille, a hearing impaired student may need the use of a hearing loop. The teacher too must ensure that their own attitudes and beliefs do not discriminate in any way and so understand, as Gavells states,P18 â€Å"All learners are entitled to be treated with respect and dignity. Everyone is an individual, with different experiences, abilities and needs. As a teacher, you need to take this into account when teaching and ensure you give equal support to all your learners without favouritism.† The teacher needs to establish good rapport and equal opportunities by showing respect. Diversity is about valuing the differences in people. To ensure that all different students feel secure in their learning environment, it is important that at the start of the course the teacher establishes ground rules which explicitly state that all students will respect the points of view of others thus ensuring all students are valued. The teacher also needs to enforce these rules consistently. Inclusion may also be promoted by an understanding of different learning styles –visual, aural and kinaesthetic (Fleming 1987). The teacher may identify that different students prefer to learn in a particular way, for example a kinaesthetic learner likes physical activities but may not like reading, therefore the teacher can personalise the teaching to incorporate more physical activities to ensure that the learner is fully engaged and included in the lessons. This may need the teacher to adapt activities within the Scheme of Work to ensure that a range of activities meet the learning styles within the group of students. Geoff Petty P.560 lists further strategies which can promote inclusive learning which include motivating individual students with tasks they value, using inclusive questioning methods such as assertive questioning, ensuring feedback is constructive and set challenging tasks. Finally, all learners are individuals and for effective inclusion the teacher needs to listen to his students and reflect on their experiences. At the end of the course the students may complete evaluation sheets and these will allow the teacher to reflect on the learners experiences and identify strengths of the course and areas which need to be modified to improve the learning for future students. Chrysanthemums Essays -- essays papers

Chrysanthemums A good writer has many tools at hand that help them develop good story lines. There are literary techniques such as voice, point of view, character, theme, and symbolism. One very interesting technique is that of symbolism. With symbolism the author is able to write a story in which many of the actions around the main character seem to enhance the way the character develops. The use of symbolism to develop the characters is easy to see in the short story "the chrysanthemums" by John Steinback. In this story Steinback writes of a woman who lives on a farm; but the woman feels trapped, and wishes that she could free herself. The author uses both the time of year and the location to develop a setting that compliments the feelings of the main character. The story starts off saying, "The high Gray-flannel fog of winter closed off the Salinas Valley from the sky and from the rest of the world."(Steinback 267)from the first sentence the author is developing a setting that compliments t he character. At this point in time of the story nothing is known about the Elisa Allen, but this quote about how the Salinas valley is closed off from the world is a symbol of the struggle that Elisa is soon to face. The second sentence of this story reinforces that the this place is isolated by saying, "On every side it sat like a lid on the mountains and made the great valley a closed pot. "(Steinback 267) The symbol of a closed pot works in conjunction with the first sentence to give an idea to the extent of how hard it would be to escape the pressure of the isolation that Elisa is feeling. The symbol of living on a farm helps Steinback show Elisa's isolation. Location is not the only symbol that Stinback uses in this sto... ... story that all of these symbols take on full meaning. A person who read this story only once may not pick up on the symbol of the valley holding Elisa back, confining her to do conventional woman's tasks. The time symbol in the story shows how Elisa is anticipating that something would happen to change the way that things are. Then the bath where Elisa cleanses herself from the confining restrictive role symbolizes the moment in time where Elisa grows up to be a woman. All these symbols work together to show Elisa Allen's character. Without them this story would have had a simple plot line where a woman grows some flowers, and then goes out with her husband. However, with all the symbols there is a story about a woman who is struggling with herself to break free from the traditional woman's role, and in the end learns that she has grown up to become a woman.

Dr. Marley About the Artist and the Art The art of Romero Britto gathers symbiotic elements of popular culture from Pernambuco - a state in Brazil -with sophisticated graphic composition, in the presence of the hybridism of the postmodern art and the â€Å"glocalization† (global and local) culture of the Contemporary. Romero started drawing very young, copying the works of other artists he saw in books. He used to articulate compositions in a way that was simplified and naà ¯ve, but†¦show more content†¦The yellow is also another evident color in the art. Yellow symbolizes wisdom, joy and happiness. This is the message that Romero Britto wants to show in all his paintings – the celebration of a happy life. We can observe a little bit of blue on the globe that the children are holding, which represents the ocean, but also we can observe it on the children’s body, with another meaning. The dark blue is the color of truth and moderation. The turquoise, found on the hair of the boy is the symbol of youth, and also the color of communication. It contains the growth quality of green with the blue quality of communication. Finally, the aqua is the color of high ideals. Brown and green are other colors found in the art. Combined, they represent wholesomeness and earthiness. They can signify growth and represent the simplicity, friendliness, dependability, renewal, and environment. The Shapes and Lines Talking about the lines, we can observe that the picture contains curves, parallel lines, and diagonal lines. Analyzing the shapes, we can find circles and organic shapes (for example, the flowers). Circles represent the eternal whole and in every culture are the form that represents the sun, the earth, the moon, and the universe.
